The state of Kansas recently opened the door to a new era of property liquidation by allowing most state agencies to sell their surplus at auction.
State agencies have the option of using the on-call auctioneering services contract with the Purple Wave Auction Co. based in Manhattan.
This contract provides Internet-only auctions, as well as a blend of live auctions with Internet absentee bidding, depending on the needs of the seller. The auction contract is available to all public entities in the state. Any state, county or city entity can use the auction services at the state commission rate without conducting another request for proposal.
In the first Internet-only auction, the state liquidated 14 loads of modular office furniture made in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The entire lot was purchased by a buyer from Texas who removed all the furniture in less than per month.
